The list goes on. This December 19, the Windsor Christmas “pre-lunch” takes place. A private event which usually brings together nearly 70 members of the British royal family, a week before the big meeting at Sandringham for the end of year celebrations. Surprise at the end of the morning, the Prince and Princess of Wales will not attend. A first for William and Kate – apart from during the Covid years which forced the Windsors not to mix too closely – who prefer to stay in Norfolk where they arrived a few days ago for the holidays, as soon as George, Charlotte and Louis finished the lessons. Don’t want to make a return trip to London, to Buckingham Palace, for the family lunch. According to the British press, this is not a last minute decision, but a planned absence.
Empty chairs in addition to those of Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson. On the advice of the latter, the brother of Charles III decided to withdraw from this lunch, so as not to embarrass the royal family. In question, suspicions of collusion between Andrew and a Chinese spy, to whom he would have given his trust for years. Andrew and Fergie will also spend Christmas evening away from Charles III and the rest of the family.
No crowds at Sandringham on the road to the church on the morning of December 25, for the same reasons as those which kept him away from this meal on December 19. This time, his daughters Beatrice and Eugenie will follow their parents’ example. They will spend the holidays with their respective in-laws. A decision which does not seem linked to the new scandal which embarrasses the family, but which still demonstrates a desire to break tradition. Without Prince Andrew, Fergie, the Prince and Princess of Wales, Charles III and Camilla will still be able to count on Princess Anne, Zara and Mike Tindall, or even the Edinburghs. Kate and William will catch up in less than a week at Sandringham.
