Thierry Beccaro had a difficult childhood. In his autobiography I was born at 17as well as in its film adaptation, the former host of Movement recounts having been victim of abuse when he was a child. A violent father, a mother “in denial”, a little boy traumatized for life…
Invited on the set of Jordan de Luxe this Tuesday, December 3, the actor spoke about this painful period. “It’s very moving for me to see this photo, because I’m smiling”he says, his voice trembling. On the screen, a photo of his younger self appears, in black and white. “When I showed these photos to my wife, I said to her: 'but it's incredible, look at all these photos,
I always smile'. My wife replied: 'It's because you were stronger than that.' I was very touched.”he remembers.
Thierry Beccaro: his Christmas memories
When he was still little, Thierry Beccaro never really experienced the magic of Christmas.
“I don’t have wonderful memories”he slips. It was once an adult, thanks to these children, that he was able to rediscover this magical period. “It was my children who reestablished a kind of truth. I think that Christmases, I experienced them a little by proxy, in my head, through songs, books, a few films…”, he adds.
During the interview, the 68-year-old actor also spoke about the other members of his family, who turned a blind eye during all these years of abuse. “It's silence once again. In the film, if you pay attention, the actress who plays my mother is a little in denial.”he explains.
Thierry Beccaro: “I would have liked him to ask me for forgiveness”
He continues: “Like the family, like my aunt may have been… When she said: 'but why did you cut ties with us Thierry? Is it because you were successful? Do you have a big head?' . Is that how you see me?
I had to run away.”
“These people couldn’t not have known. But we were in the 60s and 70s…”he blurted. When his mother died a short time ago, Thierry Beccaro accompanied him, without resentment, with kindness and generosity. As for his father, he only expected one thing from him… “I would have liked him to ask me for forgiveness”, he concludes with emotion.
