The friendship between Kad Merad and Dany Boon is an emblematic story in the French cinematographic landscape. The two actors met for the first time on the set of the film The House of Happiness in 2006, directed by Dany Boon. However, it is their collaboration on the film Welcome to the Ch'tis in 2008 which truly sealed their friendship. This film, which has become a cultural phenomenon in France, tells the story of a post director transferred against his will to the North of France. Kad Merad and Dany Boon play the main rolesand their complicity burst onto the screen. Their sense of humor and their ability to complement each other have made their duo a must-see in French cinema. Moreover, outside of the film sets, the two actors maintain a deep friendship. Invited this December 1st in Looking forward to Sunday on France 3, Dany Boon in full promotion of his new show entitled “Clown is Not a Job!!” returned to Michel Drucker on his friendship with Kad Merad.
As a preamble, the host of France Télévisions showed him a short video in which Julia Vignali's husband left her a short message. “I took revenge. I slept at his house during the entire filming of Life for Real and he unfortunately showed me the wine cellar, I hope that next time when I come back, it will have been renewed because I can tell you , you're going to have a bad time my boy, in moderation”we could hear. Dany Boon then spoke and returned to the difficult little moments he experienced with his friend. “He was last on my list of actors, even outside the sheet. I hadn't thought of him and when they told me at Pathé: 'Hey, why not Kad Merad?' I said: 'Ah yes!'. It's true that I'm a little hard on him.”said Noah’s dad. And to resume: “As we have a bond and laugh a lot together, he is very good and he knew his text very well but sometimes he had a lot of text to do and he was a little hesitant. It annoyed me a little so it's true that at the beginning, we struggled a bit.”
A deep friendship between Dant Boon and Kad Merad
By miming a gesture which meant that he had torn the text, Dany Boon continued to remember: “I removed all the text from him, telling him go for it, it doesn't matter… I would like to return the compliment, he says that I gave him a very funny role but he is the one who is very funny in it.” So no hatchet between the two men who support each other in their respective projects and do not hesitate to express their admiration for each other during interviews. Their bond was also reflected in their continued collaboration on other projects, such as the film Supercondriaque in 2014, also directed by Dany Boon. But also more recently, with the release of the film Life for realin April 2023, film by Dany Boon in which the two friends once again played together.
