Sammy Hagar recently expressed his desire to reconnect with his former Van Halen bandmate Alex Van Halen in an interview with Rolling Stone. Despite several failed attempts to reestablish contact, Hagar hopes that the two men can one day make peace.
Reconciliation as a priority
Sammy Hagar said he's not looking to get back together with Alex Van Halen, but wants to rekindle a lost friendship: “I waved many times, and I just did it again. I don't want to play in a band with him. I just want to be friends again.”
The singer also expressed his empathy for Alex, who is going through personal and health challenges: “When I saw that he had mobility problems, I understood why he wasn't answering my calls. It broke my heart. If I could no longer sing or perform, I would feel it as a huge loss.”

Forgotten in Brothers
Hagar was also asked about his absence in the book Brothers by Alex Van Halen, which focuses almost exclusively on the David Lee Roth era: “It’s sad. I haven't read the whole book, but I have seen excerpts. Why he left me out, I would like him to explain to me one day. But I understand that this book is like a love letter to his brother Eddie, and it’s touching.”
Sammy suggested that a possible second volume could cover other periods of the band, including the “Van Hagar” era.
Preserving the “Van Hagar” legacy
For Hagar, his role, along with that of Michael Anthony, is now to keep the legacy of the “Van Hagar” era alive: “This music is too precious to be forgotten. Mike and I feel obligated to keep it alive for the fans.”
Hagar concluded by reaffirming that he remains open to reconciliation: “It’s on my list of things to do before I die. I don’t want Alex or I to take this to our graves.”
