Adé is the stage name of Adélaïde Chabannes for whom the guitar and cello opened the doors to the world of music. His voice was then the decisive element in creating the pop, rock and hip-hop group Therapie Taxi in 2013, before leaving it eight years later. For two years, she launched a solo career, decided by a real desire to exist on her own and to write the rest of her path by answering the question she had already asked herself with a first album So what? His second album, Inside Out MVMT, has just been released in November, and it will be on the roads of France, on tour, from March 2025.
franceinfo: Inside Out MVMT says it all, already on the cover, we see you screaming, your hair is pulled. It's a total shift with a very rock, very alternative sound. Is this the sound identity that you have finally managed to find and which suits you the most?
Crown : I think that I really hit on something there because there is still pop… Well, it's a hybrid record. I believe that today it is impossible to only be one thing, to only be one color. We are really a mixture of many things.
“An album is a chapter and so I want to explore in greater depth each time the chapters of my life and the colors that I love.”
In this album, I managed to crystallize who I am for the moment. Of course that will change later, but for now I feel very in tune with this record so I'm really happy.
In Conceals you sing “I'm afraid of my body deep down, that it betrays my emotions“. However, it was your emotions that allowed you to write these texts. It started on the Tour bus.
Exactly. A year and a half ago, I went on tour. We did 100 concerts in one year so it was still very intense. I was on stage and I felt this energy that we had with my group on stage. And at the same time, in the songs we played, there was something that didn't go very well because it was a bit too calm. And I said to myself: I just have to write the next songs that will be in line with this energy. I got to work on the bus after the concerts, telling myself I'm taking this energy. But suddenly, it was a little intense, a little complicated, but at least I felt all these emotions directly. I was trying to digest them to have a thought and at the same time trying to keep the basic emotion.
It took you a while to start writing. At the beginning, there was the cello, the conservatory. At ten years old, you receive this first guitar and discover rock. Your father helped you a lot with that. Was he a trigger in this discovery between Avril Lavigne and the Red Hot Chili Peppers?
That's it! Avril Lavigne, it wasn't him, but he saw that I was listening to him and he said to himself: “Ah, there's a door that opens, maybe we'll be able to go there because before I really didn't listen to that at all“. And so yes, he made me listen to Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, all that. I was 15-20 years old and it was so good. It's part of my family history and it seems to me to be an old time, but it's really part of me.
Since the beginning of this exchange, you have talked to me a lot about the views of others, but what is your view of yourself then?
I can be very hard on myself and at the same time, I try not to hold back. I always try to overcome things, to go further because when I finally manage to unlock something, that's when I'm proud of myself. I say to myself: that's it, you've invented something, you've gone beyond something and it's a bit of a driving force. But we need more gentleness and that's very hard and I find that I also talk about that in the record.
And we discover gentleness in the songs in which you free yourself from the gaze of others. It's quite astonishing!
There is one called It'll be OK.
For me, it's the most beautiful track on this album. There, for once, you are on edge, you are completely naked.
I know why!
“'It's going to be okay' is the only song on the record that I really wrote in a moment of emotion and not in a reflection on an emotion that I had.”
The real subject is a bit stupid, it's that my cat was sick. It's a song for my cat! When I wrote it, I was really emotional and then when we recorded it, two or three months later, it actually made me cry even though he was much better. That's when I understood that, in fact, this song was for me.
This album is still a huge part of you, Inside Out MVMT. Everything is said on this cover. It's a cry from the heart, that is to say, your hair is being pulled, certainly, your hands are very long.
In fact, the hands are a bit of a detail. At the start my record company told me: “Are you sure? “Because it's a big photo, it has nothing to do with it… And I said no but look, we have to go into the photo, just take the expression. I made it on my cell phone and for me it was obvious.
Is there a scene coming?
