On June 27, 2024, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako are on their third and final day of their visit to the United Kingdom. Just hours before the conclusion of this historic state visit, King Charles III and Queen Camilla bid farewell to the Japanese sovereigns outside the entrance to Buckingham Palace.

British royal couple bid farewell to Japanese imperial couple at Buckingham Palace

Emperor Naruhito, 64, and Empress Masako, 60, are on the final day of their state visit to the United Kingdom on Thursday, June 27. On the morning of their third day, the imperial couple were expected at the Young V&A museum, to visit an exhibition dedicated to manga myths. On their way to the museum, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako stopped at Buckingham Palace.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla, who no longer have commitments to perform alongside the imperial couple, wanted to bid farewell to the Emperor and the Empress. A short ceremony took place in front of the entrance to Buckingham Palace.

The Emperor and Empress of Japan will conclude the public portion of their British visit at the famous Kew Gardens, west of London, which houses a collection of 2.4 billion types of wild plant seeds, including Japanese species. The imperial couple will also make a discreet detour to Windsor to pay private respects at the tomb of Queen Elizabeth II.
