It’s no secret that many artists are involved in supporting a camp or a candidate during the American presidential election. During the last ballot, Brad Pitt, Taylor Swift, Cher, Dwayne Johnson50 Cent, Scarlett Johansson, Demi Lovatto and Jennifer Aniston indicated their preference. Ditto for Kanye West. The latter had gone further, putting forward a candidacy for the White House for 2024.
If the rapper gave up last December, others did not give up. This is the case of Alice Cooper, 76 years old, who since 1972 and the release of her title “Elected” has been a candidate every four years. On his AliceForPresident website, he summarizes his program: “I have absolutely no idea what to do, so I should be where I belong”. Always as prankster friend Alice Cooper.
Four years ago, still in the same spirit, he was already campaigning by asserting: that he would do nothing as well as those who do nothing, referring to politicians, of course.
Kanye West decides not to run in the 2024 US presidential election
This week, it’s Krist Novocelic, the ex-drummer of Nirvana, who embarked on the adventure after having already wanted to run for office in the state of Washington in 2004. That same year, he published a book titled: Of Grunge&Government : Let’s Fix This Broken Democracy ! (In French : On Grunge and Democracy: How to Fix Broken Democracy).
He also stood out in 2020 during the previous presidential campaign by publishing a message on social networks which caused an outcry. He described it as “strong and direct” the tone of a speech by Trump about the revolts raging in the United States following the death of George Floyd, killed by the police officers who had arrested him.
His campaign to collect the necessary 1000 signatures will take place in four concerts like so many conventions. Original but also necessary for the existence of his political party, the Cascade Party of Washington. Because that’s Krist Novoselic’s goal: to bring his training to life. To do that, you have to run for president and organize conventions. This is what the Washington State regulations require, which the former sidekick of Kurt Cobain and Dave Grohl is fighting against.
The bassist therefore created a new group for this occasion: Bona Fide Band, with Mark Pickerel, the first drummer of Screaming Trees.
