If you ever have the opportunity to spend a few days in Krakow, Poland, there is one place that is apparently worth a detour: its wax museum – the Polonia Wax Museum of its official name. Which is in fact the best of the worst of establishments of this type. From the level of the DreamLand Wax Museum in Boston which closed its doors in 2020. It's impossible not to be overcome with laughter when discovering the works exhibited there. Finally, works is a big word. Let's rather say horrors. Because objectively, if some statues are not that bad, others seem straight out of a horror film. The kind that invites itself into our nightmares.
Who are the stars of the Polonia Wax Museum?
Who do we find there? Movie stars like Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Marilyn Monroe, Sylvester Stallone, Harrison Ford and Audrey Hepburn. Athletes like Lionel Messi, Usain Bolt and Mike Tyson. Singing stars like Mick Jagger, Elton John, Elvis Presley, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga. Political figures of the caliber of Vladimir Putin, Hilary Clinton, Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky. Polish stars who may not mean anything to you (except the footballer Robert Lewandowski or General Jaruzelski).
Karl Lagerfeld also has his little place there, as does Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso and our greatest French DJ, David Guetta. You will also be able to meet ET, Dobby, Sponge Bob, Po from Kung Fu Panda, Mister Bean, the heroes of Harry Potter. But the highlight of the show is undoubtedly the British royal family. They are not all there, Charles is not there, nor is Prince Harry or Meghan Markle. But the late Elizabeth II and Philip, and especially the prince William et Kate (all teeth!) they are essential.
And to finally convince us, the comments left by visitors make us seriously want to take a look: “It takes about five minutes to walk around. We even saw a child crying, probably because he was scared by the scary characters.” ; “It’s Shein’s Madame Tussauds!” ; “It's so bad it's brilliant. Intentional or not, it's hilarious” ; “William and Kate are exceptional” ; “This wax museum is a fun place to visit after a few beers or vodka”. For information, the entrance ticket costs 55 pln – that's a little more than 12 euros. Some will say it's expensive for what it is…
