Having become Olympic champion in the 100m last summer in Paris, Noah Lyles agreed, for a bet, to challenge content creator iShowSpeed in the 50m. With a nice jackpot at stake.
Would you be able to tickle the fastest man on the planet over 50m? This is the challenge that Darren Jason Watkins Jr, better known by his pseudonym iShowSpeed, a famous American content creator always eager for new challenges of all kinds, tried to take up. Especially when there's a lot of money at stake.
A 100m duel as the next bet
With the promise for the winner to win 100,000 dollars (92,000 euros), the influencer with millions of subscribers on social networks challenged Noah Lyles (27), winner last summer of the 100m at the Paris Olympic Games. Broadcast live online, the improbable clash took place on Tuesday and almost gave rise to a big surprise.
Starting off very strong, iShowSpeed seemed for a time able to compete with Lyles, before the latter gently decided to accelerate halfway through to finally win this 50 meters without forcing too much. What’s next? “You should train with me to get faster. And once you have the right technique and know what to do, we can compete in a real man's race: the 100m,” Lyles said.
iShowSpeed's response: “I've never raced on a track in my life. And in pure speed, I'm faster than you.” Aged 19, the streamer, a huge fan of Cristiano Ronaldo, made himself known on YouTube thanks to his excessive reactions during his gaming games. But he is also regularly accused of racism or misogyny on social networks.
