American music star Chris Brown is expected in South Africa in December 2024 for a mega concert. An event which is not unanimous among South Africans for various reasons. At a time when some of the star’s fans are lining up to buy tickets, a petition has been launched calling for the cancellation of his two Chris Brown concerts in Johannesburg.
The cause
Renowned for being someone who hits women with a lot of violence according to several sources without forgetting the accusations of rape and violence coming from several women who have been around him. The presence of Chris Brown in a country strongly impacted by feminicides and violence against women is already the source of great controversy in the country. Currently, the petition launched by the organization “Women for Change” already has 20,000 signatures, asking the initiators of the event to cancel these concerts and the South African government not to grant Chris a visa Brown, as other countries have done in the past: United Kingdom and Australia.
Everything suggests that given these numerous accusations and reasons, maintaining the two Chris Brown concerts would be an insult to millions of girls and women affected by violence, in South Africa and around the world according to the association which requests the cancellation of the two shows. Some of Chris Brown’s fans outright reject this petition, arguing that it is an exaggeration, saying the artist’s personal problems have nothing to do with his performance contracts although the artist is targeted by several accusations in recent years, some of whose decisions ended up in court. Remember that singer Chris Brown was convicted in 2009 after hitting singer Rihanna, his girlfriend at the time.
