Patrick Sabatier back on TF1: he hasn’t aged a bit

The last time he hosted a show, on TF1, was in 1992, with “All in the news“. Since then, Patrick Sabatier has worked for Télé, C8, and even Europe 1, which he left to write a book. This October 9, 2024, received by Bruce Toussaint, the star host returned to the first channel after 32 years of absence !

He came to present “Don’t tell Paul“, which comes out today. Patrick Sabatier took the opportunity to look back on his career at the top. Indeed, he remembered: “I have experienced wonderful things, extraordinary shows that I have created. We didn’t buy any concept, we did it and it worked. Really I had my period where I was hyped spoiled”.

And added: “But today, I’m super spoiled by what I’m experiencing. I’m lucky to have a wife who I’ve gotten along with for a long time, children, grandchildren, we do things.”

Pragmatic about retirementPatrick Sabatier estimates today: “And then you know, I am one of the septuagenarians, so I know that time, even if I consider it quite long, it is still limited.

He therefore questions: “Who am I going to give this time to? Do I still have to give it on the radio? Should I give it to TV? Should I give it to my family and friends? I made the choice“.

A choice that he does not regret at all. And for good reason, Patrick Sabatier is delighted to have now moved on to something else. He explains thus: “I did shows that had 15-18 million viewers, so usually when I went out on the street I was pretty recognized. And there, I have just signed my first book (…) I am on the train, and (…) I see that I have completely fallen off the radar.”

He relishes his anonymity

With a certain joy, Patrick Sabatier realized: “This is the transition from celebrity to anonymity”. The paf star also believes that “When you have been a famous person, you must at least love anonymity as much as fame.”

And for good reason, he says: it’s the only way to be happy, to land, otherwise, we are very, very, very unhappy.” He then quotes “lots of singers and actors who are less in the spotlight and who have a very difficult time with it“. And Patrick Sabatier said to them: “that there is another life“.
