Like so many other actors before him, he first toiled before becoming a star bankable, whose presence on the bill of a project ensures that the studios receive good box office revenue. Interviewed on the set of Sunday Sitdown With Willie Geist, Chris Pine revealed that it is his role as Nicholas Devereaux in A princess wedding which allowed him to take off (and not end up broke).
It was the middle of summer and I was going down to Magnolia. I was on my little Verizon flip phone, my silver phone, and I got a call from my agents telling me I got the job. I stopped on the side of the highway and they said to me: “You will be paid $65,000,” and it’s like they just told me I won $50 million. It was absolutely overwhelming. […] I had an overdraft in my bank account, around 400 dollars. I was going to have to ask my parents for money, and I got this $65,000. I remember very well knowing at that moment that my life had changed in one way or another. It didn’t last long and I owed my parents money for rent. But it’s an extraordinary feeling. I will never forget him.
