In Stockholm, they boarded the royal barge Order of Vasa, accompanied by Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, to reach the quay at the foot of the royal palace.
King Frederik, 55, and Queen Mary, 52, were welcomed by King Carl XVI Gustaf, 78, and Queen Silvia, 80, in a formal ceremony. After this military welcome, the two royal couples returned to the interior of the palace where delegations from the two countries, as well as other members of the royal family, were waiting for them. Prince Carl Philip and his wife, Princess Sofia, were there to welcome the Danish royal couple. Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel were also accompanied by their children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar.
Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar watched the welcoming ceremony from the top of the palace stairs, waving Danish flags. This weekend, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar took part in a craft workshop with their parents to make Danish flags themselves.

Princess Estelle, 12, is the goddaughter of Queen Mary, while Prince Oscar, 8, is the godson of King Frederik Danish royal couple. This allocation of godparents between members of Scandinavian royal families strengthens the bonds of friendship between the families, who are also cousins.
In addition to the historical and political ties that link Sweden to Denmark, the royal families also have very close family ties. King Carl XVI Gustaf is the first cousin of Queen Margrethe of Denmark, the mother of King Frederik.
