The Academy of Cinema Arts and Techniques has announced that Julia Roberts will receive, on February 28 on the Olympia stage, an honorary César on the occasion of the 50e Caesar ceremony. At 56, she remains one of the most famous faces in American cinema. Propelled to the forefront from an early age, the actress achieved international recognition with the role of Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman (1990), film directed by Garry Marshall. Alongside Richard Gere, her radiant smile and her performance allowed her to capture the hearts of the public and receive a Golden Globe for best actress and an Oscar nomination.

Since then, Julia Roberts has had a string of successes with roles as varied as they are unforgettable. Romantic comedies like My Best Friend’s Wedding et Love at first sight in Notting Hill (1999) to poignant dramas such as The Pelican Affair or Erin Brockovich, alone against everyonefor which she won the Oscar for best actress in 2001, the richness of her interpretations knows no limits.

The Honorary César, which rewards a career, was awarded this year to French director and actress Agnès Jaoui and British director Christopher Nolan. This 49e edition had seen the triumph ofAnatomy of a fallby Justine Triet (César for best film and best direction).

The 50th César ceremony will be chaired by Catherine Deneuve and the nominations must be announced on January 29.
