Prime Minister François Legault will announce Thursday morning that a giant Ford battery factory will be set up in Bécancour, in the Centre-du-Québec region, according to TVA Nouvelles.

This announcement was expected when the plant was already under construction.
The announcement will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The Prime Minister will be accompanied by Minister of Economy, Innovation and Energy Pierre Fitzgibbon, and Canada’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, François-Philippe Champagne.
It should be noted that last May, the Quebec government, via Investissement Québec, granted a loan of more than $151.9 million to the limited partnership of GM-POSCO Future M for the construction of a materials production plant battery in Bécancour.
The plant project is estimated at more than $600 million and will create 200 jobs in the Centre-du-Québec region.
In previous months, both GM and Germany’s Volkswagen had announced billions in investments to build electric car production plants in Ontario.
Quebec is a strategic place for the battery industry, in particular thanks to the presence of several deposits of strategic minerals such as lithium or graphite.
