Three bracelets and an antique gold helmet, the centerpiece of an exhibition, were stolen from a museum in Assen in the Netherlands, local media reported, after an intrusion overnight from Friday to Saturday to help explosives.
The Drenthe Museum, located in Assen in the north of the Netherlands, was to host the exhibition ‘Dacia, Empire of Gold and Silver’ until the end of the weekend, with numerous masterpieces work loaned by Romania.
Around 3:45 a.m. on the night of Friday to Saturday, the police were informed of an explosion, the museum said on its website.
The thieves took away three royal bracelets as well as Cotofenesti’s golden helmet, the centerpiece of the exhibition dating from the 450s BC. AD
‘It’s a dark day for the Assen Museum and the National History Museum of Romania in Bucharest. We are deeply shocked by the events that occurred last night,’ responded museum director Harry Tupan.
‘In 170 years of existence, there has never been such a serious incident. We also feel great sadness towards our Romanian colleagues,’ he stressed, adding that the police were investigating.
-The explosion damaged the premises of the museum, which was closed at least this weekend.
Police said they were cooperating with Interpol to carry out their investigation. She identified a suspicious vehicle, set on fire during the night, and which could be linked to this theft. The occupants could have gotten into another vehicle.
