The FSR 3.1 games should be updated quickly to the FSR 4, but there is still something to lighten!

The postponement of RX 9070 XT obviously decided at the last minute has caused a lot of ink to flow. Officially, it is to constitute a more substantial stock of cards (AMD does not have the same allowances with TSMC as its direct competitor, knowing in addition that there was an earthquake in Taiwan on January 20 having Touched production lines at TSMC), and it is also to refine the FSR 4. Recently, The Last of Us Part 1 was updated to go from FSR3 to FSR 3.1. This gave rise to comments on X, including that of Kepler_L2 which wrote something interesting. According to him, the FSR 3.1 games will be updated with the FSR 4 SDK, to pass the games under the new UPSCALING of AMD. However, if this is good news, it does not give more information on what FSR 4 will be.

We know that the latter will finally go to Active AI to make his frame Generation, and that he will be immediately compatible with the RDNA 4 cards and therefore the RX 9070 XT. AMD did not say anything else, but insofar as Rdna 3 has AI units as well, one can think that it will be possible to envisage the thing also on the Radeon Rx 7000, assuming that power either sufficient, or that Amd finds a parade for the use of these units of Rdna 3 named Ai Matrix Accelerator. Indeed, they could not a priori be used jointly with conventional units, at least the matrix calculation on the vector IA units would partly block the SIMD (or even the entire SIMD) to which they are attached. This would therefore remove the potato, and it is not impossible that the hardware support of the FSR 4 is compromised on RDNA 3 due to this operating subtlety.

On the other hand, we can certainly forget the FSR 4 on the RDNA 2 and anterior cards. It is therefore not because the FSR 4 SDK will replace in the FSR 3.1 games the FSR 3.1 SDK that the RDNA 3 cards will start to make material upscaling. In any case, for the moment, nothing allows you to say it, and especially not on this day of umpteenth silence of AMD. This just allows you to say that lots of FSR 3.1 games today will be compatible FSR 4 at the launch of RX 9070 XT cards, and we imagine that it is one of AMD’s responses to the dazzling deployment of the DLSS 4, which will be either Integrated by the developers, either forced via NV App since the game already has DLSS.

Case to follow, as you can imagine, because the subject is hot and thorny, it is the future of RDNA 4 cards which will need this asset to make their place in front of the Blackwell armada.
