The dirham appreciated by 1.4% against the euro and 0.6% against the US dollar, during the period from January 2 to 8, 2025, according to Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM). During this period, no auction operations were carried out on the foreign exchange market, specifies BAM in its weekly bulletin.

As of January 3, 2025, official reserve assets stood at 373.2 billion dirhams (billion dirhams), down 0.6% from one week to the next and up 4.9% year-on-year. .

During this week, the volume of BAM interventions amounted to 144.2 billion dirhams on a daily average. It is divided between 7-day advances for an amount of MAD 60.2 billion, as well as longer-term repos and guaranteed loans for respective amounts of MAD 49.6 billion and MAD 34.3 billion.

On the interbank market, the average daily trading volume returned to MAD 2.6 billion and the interbank rate stood at 2.5% on average.

During the call for tenders on January 8 (value date January 9), the Bank injected an amount of MAD 53.4 billion in the form of 7-day advances.

On the stock market, the MASI increased by 6.4%. This weekly evolution reflects in particular the increases in the indices of 6% for “banks”, 7.2% for “buildings and construction materials”, 13.8% for “transport services” and 16.2% for “real estate participations and development”.

As for the weekly trading volume, it fell from one week to the next from 7.3 billion dirhams to 4.2 billion dirhams, almost all of which was carried out on the central equity market.
