A couple from Saint-Père-en-Retz (Loire-Atlantique) decided to buy a converted bus last August in order to tour Europe. But it quickly broke down as the couple sold their house a few days before. Since then, they have lived in a camper van area.
A dream that gradually turns into a nightmare. In August 2024, Céline and Mathieu, parents of two boys aged 9 and 12, decided to sell their house located in Saint-Père-en-Retz (Loire-Atlantique), which divides West-France. They plan to buy a converted bus and want to start a tour of France and then Europe.
After several requests, National Education accepted their request for home schooling. The couple bought a bus, dating from 1978, which appeared to be in good condition. The departure is given on August 8, 2024, tell our colleagues. First destination: Finistère. That the little family will never see. And for good reason, their new home broke down just four hours later.
“We paid €56,000”
The repairman who takes care of Céline, Mathieu and the two boys tells them that the vehicle's clutch needs to be changed and that its general condition does not bode well for the rest of the journey. A first hard blow, as the mother shares. “It’s true that we trusted the private seller, we know nothing about mechanics. We paid €56,000!”
Since then, the bus has been towed to the Guichen Pont-Réan motorhome area where the family lives – with their two dogs, three cats and their hamster – while waiting to find a solution. This will perhaps be judicial since the couple has decided to attack the seller. “We wonder how he was able to pass the technical inspection […] During the assessment, the mechanics were frightened to see the state of the vehicle,” says Céline. The court must deal with this case on January 29. Until then, they have decided to open a kitty that could help them to buy a converted bus in order to truly make their dream come true.
