Several TER and TGV trains and thousands of passengers were delayed Friday evening on the Bordeaux-Dax line, due to cable theft in the Landes, reports Saturday January 11 “ici Gascogne”. Traffic resumed normally on Saturday, after repairs overnight. A complaint will be filed by the SNCF.
The cables were stolen in Solférino (Landes), in an isolated area, specifies the gendarmerie. The incident was noted by SNCF around 8 p.m. Friday. Traffic was immediately interrupted on the Bordeaux/Dax and Bordeaux/Mont-de-Marsan axis, before gradually resuming, at a slow pace, around 10 p.m. In total, 5 TER and 4 TGV trains were delayed, but all passengers were able to reach their final destination.
At the beginning of October on franceinfo, the general secretary of the rail and transport union First, Bernard Aubin, explained that it was copper which motivated these thefts because its price had “tripled over the past twenty years”. He estimated the cost for the SNCF around “20 to 30 million euros per year”.
