The Cégep de Matane announces the launch of dental hygiene services offered to the population by its students.
This initiative will allow 2nd and 3rd year interns of the program Dental hygiene techniques to put their learning into practice this winter.
Students will be under the close supervision of a qualified teaching team, thus guaranteeing “the safety and quality of treatments,” specifies the Cégep administration.
By using these new services, the population will directly contribute to the training of dental hygienists who attend the Matanese establishment. She will also benefit from “quality care at attractive prices”.
For an evaluation, cleaning and intra-oral x-ray, the prices are set at $40 for children (0 to 12 years), $50 for adolescents (13 to 18 years) and $65 for adults.
The exam/cleaning includes screening and full examination of the mouth, developing a care plan, scaling, polishing, and fluoride application.
The cost of a panoramic x-ray is set at $50. It is strongly suggested for all new clients in order to facilitate a better diagnosis from the associated dentist.
For now, dental hygiene interns will offer the following services:
- Comprehensive assessment of oral health status;
- Teaching of the principles of oral hygiene;
- Personalized design of the dental hygiene care plan (including the dietary assessment);
- Supra and subgingival scaling;
- Periodontal debridement, according to a prescription from an associated dentist;
- Teeth polishing;
- Execution of diagnostic examinations, including taking x-rays, according to a prescription from an associated dentist;
- References offered to different specialists, if necessary.
The first step towards a school clinic
This launch represents the first step in the deployment of a dental hygiene school clinic. The latter should open in the fall of 2025, on the Cégep de Matane campus. Other types of services will then emerge.
« What distinguishes our services from a traditional clinic is its educational mission. Each visit is an opportunity to contribute to student learning, while receiving attentive and personalized care. By choosing our services, you play a crucial role in the training of tomorrow’s dental hygienists, while benefiting from regular, quality monitoring. In addition, the rates offered are very competitive, thus offering expanded access to oral care for the community,” comments the department coordinator, Annick Dubé.
To make an appointment, simply contact 418 562-1240, then 2174 to schedule a first visit. As the number of patients is limited for the launch of services, a waiting list will be established.
All the details on this new service are available on the Cégep de Matane website.
