The year 2025 brings its share of changes with a new increase in motorway prices in France, reaching on average 0,92%. Even if it may not seem like much compared to previous years, this increase is part of a continuing trend since 2023. For those who regularly use these roads, this is not trivial because it has a direct impact on the daily transport budget.
Why do prices continue to rise?
Major highway companies like Vinci, Sanef, S.A.P.N., APRRet Area apply since February 1, 2025 these new rates to their respective networks. To give an idea, the increases had been much more marked in previous years: we are talking about 4,75% in 2023 and 3% in 2024. This persistent rise raises questions about what this means for those who often use French motorways.
The A86 Duplex: why is it so expensive?
The famous Duplex de l’A86located between Rueil-Malmaison and Vélizy in Île-de-France, stands out for its particularly high prices. In 2025, certain time slots will see their prices rise up to 27% ! This ten-kilometer tunnel, where the speed is limited to 70 km/h, represents a significant cost to avoid traffic jams during rush hours.
Its pricing structure is rather complex: there are around fifteen different rates depending on the time. Prices can change every 30 minutes, requiring drivers to plan their journey carefully to avoid blowing their budget.
A concrete example: how much will it cost?
Let’s take the example of the section between Rueil-Malmaison and Vaucresson. In 2024, move between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Monday to Thursday cost 8,60 euros. Since the beginning of 2025, it has increased to 11 eurosor more than two euros increase for this specific niche. This portion is managed by Cofiroute (a subsidiary of Vinci).
For someone who uses this tunnel ten times a month during this specific period, this represents a fairly significant monthly increase in 24 eurosbringing the total cost to 110 euros compared to only 86 previously. This clearly shows how these increases can weigh heavily on the budget of regulars.
How to manage these additional costs?
The financial repercussions don’t just stop at the A86 Duplex; they concern all those who regularly use the French motorway network. Each successive increase increases the economic burden on drivers who rely on highways for.
