The CFDT announces a manifestation in front of the headquarters of the LDC poultry company in Sablé-sur-Sarthe, Wednesday January 8, 2025. This time, it is not an action by the animal defense association L214. The CFDT agri-agro denounces the closure of the Blancafort poultry slaughterhouse in Cher.
Closure of the LDC Blancafort slaughterhouse, a demonstration planned
The LDC group bought the site from the Doux company in 2012. The poultry giant announced the closure of the slaughterhouse, which employs 119 people, on October 24.
Imports combined with a consumer shift away from turkey meat to chicken have resulted in turkey meat production being divided by four since September and the elimination of 80 temporary positions.
Faced with this observation, the unionists believe that the group has “let the situation deteriorate by delaying reorganizing and possibly transforming its unit towards other meats that are more economically profitable and correspond better to demand”.
“No other alternatives”
The union denounces “the fact that the group has not proposed alternatives other than the closure of the site planned for the end of March 2025”.
The union will be vigilant “that the LDC group provides support worthy of its gigantic financial resources” and will make this known during this event on Wednesday January 8.
