Despite a high level of deliveries in the last quarter of 2024, last year's results are in the red. Certainly, the decline is limited but it is a first stop in Tesla's crazy rise.
True to form, Tesla was quick to release its sales figures for the past year. Even if this time, they are less good.
The total deliveries for the whole of 2024 thus amounts to 1,789,226 cars. This is therefore a decline in results compared to 2023, the year when the manufacturer delivered 1,808,581 cars. The drop is thus 1%. Which obviously remains a limited decline and a high level of sales for such a young brand.
But Elon Musk promised permanent growth for his brand, which was to fly from record to record. The curve is therefore reversed. And the objective set to reach two million sales over the year, already missed in 2023, is missed again in 2024. Tesla still highlights a last quarter at a very high level, with 495,570 sales.
As has been the case for several years, the Model 3 / Model Y duo represents almost all sales, with more than 1.70 million registrations in 2024 (we do not know the breakdown between the sedan and the SUV) . There are 85,133 sales for the rest of the range, an increase of less than 20,000 units, proof that the Cybertruck's debut is not that exceptional.
The decline must also be put into perspective with an excellent year 2023 as a basis for comparison, driven by the rise of the Model Y, which had been the best-selling car in the world, all energies combined. Many customers having already sold out, in particular thanks to a drop in prices, it is difficult to do better in 2024. To try to achieve this, Tesla had to resolve to increase the number of promotion periods.
In addition, many have been waiting for a few months for the restyled version of the Model Y, which will arrive in early 2025 and could restart the sales machine. But now, there is clearly a lack of a smaller vehicle capable of attracting new customers, particularly in Europe. The arrival of such a vehicle remains very unclear, with conflicting information continuing in 2024!
Elon Musk preferred to unveil Tesla's next autonomous models this year, namely the Cybercab taxi and the Robovan shuttle. Deliveries of Cybercab will not begin until 2026 at best.
