The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) reveals that international customers must 5,7 millions dollars for electricity supply in the third quarter of 2024.
The international clients in question are Paras-SBEE and Transcorp-SBEE, both of Benign ; Mainstream-NIGELEC of Niger ; and Odukpani-CEET du Togo.
Under an international treaty, Nigeria exports electricity to neighboring countries, including Benignthe Niger and Togo, a practice aimed at fostering regional cooperation and trade. However, persistent payment shortfalls have raised concerns about the sustainability of these agreements.
3rd quarterly report 2024
The NERC revealed in its latest quarterly report that Market Operators (MO) issued an invoice for $12.19 million to six companies, of which $6.49 million was paid.

The Commission added that some bilateral customers, including domestic and international customers, made payments in the third quarter of 2024 for unpaid MO invoices from previous quarters.
Partial settlement of unpaid debts
Regarding unpaid invoices, the NERC said that some bilateral customers, both domestic and international, paid amounts in the third quarter of 2024 for unpaid operator invoices from previous periods.
For example for the case of Togo, the report of the NERC disclosed that “Odukpani-CEET made a payment of $1.33 million towards unpaid invoices from previous quarters.”
The quarterly report of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission is prepared in accordance with section 56 (3) of the Electricity Act, 2023, which requires the Commission to submit quarterly reports of its activities to the President and to the National Assembly.
The report analyzes the state of the Nigeria Electricity Supply Sector (NESI) covering operational and business performance, regulatory functions, as well as consumer concerns.
