Huawei shocks the world with an electric SUV that also runs on gasoline

Electric car news

Chinese technology giant Huawei is preparing to shake up the automotive market with a surprising announcement. In collaboration with the manufacturer Chery, the company is launching the Luxeed R7 EREV, an electric SUV with a game-changing technical feature: a thermal range extender.

A new approach to electric mobility

The Luxeed R7 EREV redefines standards with an innovative technical architecture. This generously sized SUV, comparable to the BMW X6, combines the efficiency of an electric motor with the practicality of an auxiliary thermal unit. The LFP battery 36 kWhprovided by the specialist CATL, guarantees autonomy of 200 kilometers in 100% electric mode according to the CLTC cycle. Adding a gasoline engine 1.5 liter turbocharged as a backup generator allows you to achieve an impressive total autonomy of 1,570 kilometers.

Cutting-edge technologies and autonomous driving

Huawei's technological expertise is particularly evident in embedded systems. The R7 EREV integrates the third generation of Qiankun ADAS systema particularly sophisticated suite of driving assistance systems.

  • Autonomous navigation on expressways
  • Intelligent parking management
  • Dynamic adaptation to traffic conditions

Aggressive pricing positioning

The price is one of the major advantages of this vehicle. Initially offered on the Chinese market at 32 000 eurosthe Luxeed R7 EREV is positioned in a segment usually dominated by much more expensive models. This aggressive pricing strategy illustrates Huawei and Chery's desire to democratize access to premium electric vehicles.

A strategic distribution of skills

The collaboration between Huawei and Chery is based on a clear division of responsibilities. Chery brings its expertise in automotive design and ensures production, while Huawei focuses on technological aspects and marketing. This synergy has already proven itself with the S7 sedan, but it is the R7 which has had the greatest commercial success with 11,000 units sold in the month of November alone.

Features Specifications
Battery capacity 36 kWh (LFP)
Electric autonomy 200 km (CLTC)
Total autonomy 1 570 km
Extension motorization 1.5L Turbo

The arrival of the R7 EREV marks a significant step in the evolution of alternative mobility. This hybrid approach, combining the advantages of electric and thermal engines, could well represent an ideal transitional solution for developing markets. The commercial success already observed in China suggests significant potential in other international markets, particularly in Europe, where questions of autonomy remain a major obstacle to the mass adoption of electric vehicles.

I have always shown a keen interest in science and technology from a very young age. I have a dual culture, Chinese through my mother and French through my father but also through my studies, which allows me to be very familiar with the technological innovations of the Far East.
