A union that says it represents about 10,000 workers announced a strike at seven facilities south of the border Thursday morning, following a Dec. 15 deadline set by the union for contract negotiations, the Associated Press reported .
CTVNews.ca reached out to Amazon Canada to find out the potential impact on Canadians. Although many items purchased on Amazon are housed in Canada or shipped from other countries, Amazon was asked if deliveries of items from U.S. sellers might be delayed.
A spokesperson said in an email that there would be “no impact on our operations” on this side of the border.

In other emails sent to CTV News, Amazon representatives denied the existence of a strike. According to The Associated Press, Teamsters called it the largest strike against the company in U.S. history. CTVNews.ca asked Amazon how it would classify these actions, if it is not a strike.
Additionally, Amazon representatives claim that delivery drivers represented by the union Teamsters are not employees of the company because they work for a third-party company called Delivery Service Partners.
THE Teamsters describe the strikers as Amazon workers, arguing that Amazon should be considered the employer of these workers because the company controls the drivers’ jobs.
Amazon increased pay for its DSPs in September to deal with growing pressure, the company said.
The union says strikes are taking place at facilities across the United States, including main picket lines at hundreds of Amazon fulfillment centers. Videos and images show picketers holding signs with messages such as “Amazon obeys the law.”
“The Teamsters will continue to lead the fight against Amazon in all its establishments until the e-commerce giant respects the law and negotiates a fair union contract with its workers,” the union said on its X site Thursday morning.
