It’s the end for Réseau Charlevoix. The chairman of the board of directors Bruno Labbé confirmed this after the meeting with regional stakeholders.

“The situation has not changed. The date of December 20 remains. We are in closure mode for Réseau Charlevoix. We are disappointed. I do not comment on the position of the speakers,” he simply said.

The political and economic stakeholders in the area have not changed their minds. They considered the request of $350,000 too high and above all wanted a recovery plan.

All parties were consistent in keeping their respective positions with the result we now know.

Reactions

“It’s sad that we are losing a product of this importance. It was a showcase for the region in Quebec and even internationally. We found ourselves in a situation that was difficult for all parties,” commented Mitchell Dion, general director of Tourisme Charlevoix.

“It’s unfortunate. We didn’t want that. This is not good news. We have more and more obligations towards citizens. We cannot finance operations. We were not the right door for the needs of Réseau Charlevoix. It was a false perception to think that we could help at this level,” indicated the mayor of La Malbaie, Michel Couturier.

“No one is surprised and it’s not what we wanted. There is nothing happy about this news which includes job losses a week before Christmas. As a city, we have choices to make. We have helped for several years and we have the feeling of duty accomplished. Do we have the means to run this Train which was an interesting product for our region”, indicated for his part Mayor Michaël Pilote, Mayor of Baie-Saint-Paul.

Unless a third party intervenes, the Charlevoix Train will not run this summer.
