Patrik Laine put on quite a show at the Bell Center last night.
His three goals scored on the power play energized the crowd like never before and there was an atmosphere in the Montreal Canadiens amphitheater.
That’s what an impact player like him is capable of doing.
Laine has only played seven games in the Canadian uniform and there are some who are already talking about extending his contract (which ends at the end of the 25-26 season).
This is particularly the case for Georges Laraque, who would be ready to grant him a seven-year contract extension at seven million dollars per season.
Stéphane Gonzalez and Benoît Roger looked at him with a surprised look after hearing his idea. Remember, however, that Laine cannot sign a contract extension before July 1:

It’s been a long time since the Canadiens have had a player of this caliber in the lineup and we saw last night why Laine is a guy who can be so useful on the ice when he’s in good shape.
Snipers with a shot like his aren’t common in the National League.
On the other hand… I said it at the beginning of the text and I repeat it: Laine played seven matches in the CH uniform.

I therefore tend to believe that we should calm down with the idea of extending our contract now because the sample is too thin. He has a fairly significant injury history and we know that he has had a difficult time in the last year and a half.
It’s true that Laine has been really hot since his return to the game, but what are we going to say if he goes 10 – 12 games without scoring? We know after all that markers like him work in sequence… And we must not forget the fact that he gets 5 tbsp. 5 too. He says it himself.
So much the better if it works at the moment and of course the ultimate goal is that the entire experience is really enjoyable for everyone.
But you have to see more from a guy to think about giving him a seven-year contract extension as Georges Laraque suggests because it’s way too early for that to happen.
