A septuagenarian woman, clearly in a state of hypothermia, was found on a construction site by construction workers last Friday.

The lady apparently spent the night outside, exposed to the cold. It was three employees of the company Écono Pro, working on the construction site of the former shelter for the homeless in Chicoutimi, who discovered her lying on the ground on a balcony, near a door.

“We had started working. Normally, on the construction site, it’s still quite noisy. At one point, the compressor and the music stopped at the same time. The construction site became silent. It was at that moment that we began to hear moans and groans. knock, knock, knock“, said one of the workers in question.

It was when they opened the door upstairs that they saw the lady on the ground in a pitiful state.

“She was banging on the door with her foot. She was asking for help. She was cold. Our first instinct was to think that she was homeless because this is the old house, there are still people around sometimes… She was able to say her name , where she came from. We clearly saw that she was not homeless. She kept saying she was cold,” the worker continued.

Saved by her “guardian angels”

“We took her in our arms. We tucked it inside. We installed it in front of an auxiliary heater. As help arrived, we did the best we could to warm her with our body heat. When his boots were taken off, both of his feet were practically blue. It was two blocks of ice. She kept telling us that we were her guardian angels.”

Confused, the lady told “her guardian angels” that she received treatment at the Chicoutimi hospital. When she was released from hospital on Thursday evening around 6 p.m., she left by taxi with the aim of returning to her private seniors’ residence, located in the Jonquière district.

The septuagenarian therefore never went where she was supposed to.

“It’s not normal that this person ended up there. She said she spent the whole night there. We found her at 7:30 in the morning, the employee said. […] It was really upsetting. Poor little lady, I said to myself: she’s someone’s grandmother, someone’s sister; I don’t know how or why it ended up there. There was clearly a gap somewhere.”

Reached by telephone, the RPA manager was also looking for information and answers. He wonders why the lady had already been released from the hospital.

Without the intervention of the three construction workers, the woman would not have survived. The paramedics even returned to the scene with coffee to thank them.

“They told us: ‘You can be proud of yourselves, the boys, You saved a life.”
