Student discovers larva in his rice, campus investigates

An unsavory mishap took place last Monday noon on the Sursee campus in Lucerne. A 21-year-old student discovered a larva wandering around in his rice, when he had just ordered the dish in the canteen. “My appetite went away as soon as I saw her,” confides the young man, who is training in the field of road construction. He immediately reported the incident to staff, who removed the intruder. The student is now considering avoiding the canteen, but this turns out to be more complicated than expected: his meals there are covered by his training company, and no other option is reimbursed to him.

The Sursee campus responded by confirming the incident and launching a thorough investigation. “We take this situation very seriously,” says Thomas Hegnauer, head of hotel management on site. A full audit of production and supply chains is underway to identify the source of the problem and prevent it from happening again. The establishment, however, insists on the isolated nature of the event, which occurred for the first time in their canteen.
