Free mobile and Bouygues Telecom join SFR in the list of operators compatible with RCS. The company with the red square had actually announced its support for RCS from the launch of iOS 18 last September.
What about Orange? The historic operator, Apple's first partner at the launch of the iPhone in 2007, and which has the most subscribers in France, is still stalling and does not yet offer RCS to its customers. Questioned by our colleagues at iGénération, Orange indicates that the work is in progress, for deployment planned during the year 2025, without further details.
This ignition delay can be explained by technical problems, or the desire to carry out long-term tests before pressing the button, but it nevertheless makes you smile. A few months ago, Orange publicly supported Google in its communication campaign aimed at encouraging Apple to adopt RCS. The operator explained that this change was even essential to improve exchanges between individual and professional users.
Despite these fine words, Orange subscribers will still have to chomp at the bit, and use the old SMS protocol for a few more months, while watching their loved ones exchange high quality videos and photos. It's not quite the watered sprinkler, but we're not far from it.
If you are an Orange subscriber, but you are frustrated at not being able to take advantage of RCS right now, don't hesitate to take a look at the latest mobile offers offered by other operators. You might even save some money in the process.
