(Quebec) Faced with the extent of delays in surgeries, the Quebec government announced Wednesday morning that it was expanding the offer of services which can be carried out in private clinics, at no cost to Quebecers.

The Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, announced in a press release that Quebecers will now be able to go to specialized medical centers to obtain a wider variety of surgeries, notably in orthopedics, otolaryngology, gynecology and urology.

In total, around twenty services have been added to the list of the Regulation respecting specialized medical treatments provided in a specialized medical center.

Previously, this was limited to cataracts, knees and hips in particular. According to the government, more than 260,000 Quebecers were able to obtain surgeries using these clinics.

The new regulations will come into force on December 19.

The government maintains that this complementarity between the private and public sectors will allow it to reduce waiting lists for surgeries.

“As part of the Health Plan, our objective is very clear: to improve access for Quebecers. This is why we are working to allow patients who have been waiting for several months to access surgery more quickly, at no cost,” declared Minister Dubé in a press release.

“We must continue to prioritize patients by focusing on the complementarity of the public and private networks. »
