The new R5 has passed the daunting Euro NCAP tests. The city car did not have the famous 5 stars. She still had 4.

Euro NCAP has just published a new round of results. With in the lot a note that we were impatiently awaiting, that of a star of the year 2024: the R5. Unfortunately for the Losange, Renault 5 will not go with 5 Euro NCAP stars.

The electric city car must indeed be satisfied with four stars. Which is of course not a catastrophic note, far from it, but can sound like a little disappointment. It should be noted, however, that Euro NCAP's assessment has become more and more severe over the years and that this is not the first Renault to escape 5 stars, the Captur also had 4. It is becoming Moreover, it is difficult for a small city dweller to have all the stars.

The R5 lost points in the adult protection section, with an overall score of 80%. In the event of a frontal impact, the protection of the driver's torso was considered average. His head can also hit the opposite door in the event of an impact from his side.

The R5, on the other hand, takes great care of children, with an almost perfect score for frontal and side impacts (23.2/24). The R5 is in fact hampered by the absence of fixings on part of the seats, which gives an overall score for this item of 80%.

As for vulnerable road users, the overall score is 76%, which again is not exceptional. If the emergency braking worked well against bicycles, it had a gap when facing a pedestrian at night. Pedestrians' heads are also in danger with the windshield, a consequence of a short hood on this model.

As for the rest of the driving aids, emergency braking was good against cars. But the overall score is only 68%, with a poor rating for monitoring driver attention.

If it misses 5 stars, the R5 is therefore not a dangerous car for its occupants, far from it. It is more penalized by pedestrian protection and its driving assistance, which now weigh heavily in the final Euro NCAP score.

Note that the Alpine A290 sports version had the same ratings, and therefore also 4 stars.

In the other results for 100% electric cars, 5 stars were awarded to the Leapmotor C10, Porsche Macan and Volvo EX30.
