It's been a few weeks since Auchan announced a major social plan. To cope with financial difficulties, the brand must reduce the size of some of its hypermarkets. Here are the cities affected by this big change.

Founded by Gérard Mulliez in 1961, Auchan is a multinational French mass distribution company managed by Mulliez family. Currently facing financial difficulties, thetaught announced a large-scale social plan. Indeed, the group wishes to review the structure of these hypermarkets in 2025. The international Auchan group is facing financial difficulties and this is not without consequences on the company's organizational chart. In fact, approximately 2300 jobs which are lost and nearly 10 stores closed according to Actu.fr. It was in a press release that the brand reported the drop in customers it had suffered since 2012. This led to the decline of one of the players in the French market.

The list of hypermarkets affected by the social plan

In an announcement, the Auchan distribution group listed the cities whose stores will see their surface area reduced. These are:

The Independent points out that the reduction of surfaces mainly concerns the non-food sections of hypermarkets. Around 60 stores out of 119 which will undergo this transformation by 2025.

The departments affected by the reduction

Not far from your home, certain Auchan stores will undergo a gradual transformation. The brand of grande distribution intends to reduce the surface of some of its hypermarkets. The surface area of ​​some of them ranges between 15,000 and 20,000 m². The French multinational wishes to reduce them to 8,000 m² and rent the free spaces to other commercial companies. The group announced that the food departments will not be affected by this reduction in surface area, unlike those of household appliances or multimedia. They encounter difficulties in online commerce.

In the Pyrénées-Orientales, Auchan is present in and Latour-Bas-Elne. Indeed, the hypermarket which is located at the gate of Spain will not escape the plan social. THE unions had even already announced the reduction of the 15,000 m² of stores on this side this summer. However, this reduction, although planned, does not seem to take place in 2025. As a reminder, the group formed an alliance with Intermarché and took over certain stores from the Casino group.

Some changes regarding the delivery service

The delivery service of the Auchan group is encountering difficulties. The brand plans to close three warehouses who managed order preparation and home delivery. By removing this service, deliveries will be carried out directly by hypermarkets. Although this measure aims to eliminate certain positions, other jobs will possibly be created by Auchan to guarantee best service.

What explains these changes

Auchan has been experiencing financial difficulties for several years due to a constant drop in attendance at its points of sale. Furthermore, to be classified among the cheapest stores in , the group had to lower its prices. Finally, the unions also denounce the unstable management of the multinational which changes managers every two years.
