Bankruptcy explains the closure of Home Hardware

The Quebec Hardware and Construction Materials Association (AQMAT) announced that five hardware stores had to close their doors following bankruptcy.

This includes Home Hardware in Fabreville. Earlier this week, citizens encountered closed doors. A sign posted in the front door indicated that it was a temporary closure.

The Courier had tried to call the establishment located at 3009, boulevard Dagenais. The result was the same. “Hello, please note that the renovation center is temporarily closed,” said a recorded message. We are sorry for the inconvenience. We wish you a good end of the day.”

In addition to the Laval branch, the stores in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, L’Épiphanie, Pine Hill (Brownsburg-Chatham) and Mirabel (Saint-Augustin) have all closed their doors.

Confirmation d’Home Hardware

These closures are attributable to the bankruptcy of the group led by Hugues Nepveu which owned the five stores.

“We can confirm that five Home stores in the Montreal region have closed,” confirms Home Hardware to AQMAT. Each of our Home stores in Canada is independently owned and operated, meaning store closings and staff operations are managed at the store level.”

AQMAT recalls that this same entrepreneur had been operating a hardware store under the RONA banner for six years in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac when he was forced into personal bankruptcy in 2012.

It should also be noted that Mr. Nepveu became a shareholder of Structures Héritage, a manufacturer of prefabricated walls based in Hawkesbury, Ontario, in 2022. It is currently unknown whether this is a separate company or whether this asset is included in the bankruptcy.

AQMAT completes its press release by noting that “Home Hardware is currently doing its utmost to keep the stores in its fold, while negotiating with the trustee to recover everything it can from this mishap which affects, of course, several suppliers too.
