Jaguar decides to buy back 2,760 2019 i-Paces from its customers because of a fire risk. The vehicle owners were initially asked to limit the charge to 80% and to park “ far from buildings », but the British brand preferred to protect its back.

Jaguar is trying as best it can to resolve a fire risk problem on its i-Pace. Batteries overheat and there is a possibility that they will catch fire. This problem has been known for several years now. There were reminders to apply software-level fixes, but that wasn’t enough. Some examples of the i-Pace that received the update remain dangerous.

Jaguar wants to avoid new incidents

To date, three 2019 i-Paces have caught fire. And this, despite the software update. To overcome this problem, the British manufacturer finally agreed to buy 2,760 examples of the vehicle in the United States. The good news for Jaguar (but much less so for customers…) is that the i-Pace has suffered significant depreciation. So the bill, while still huge, will not be as large as it could have been.

Normally, this situation would probably have caused bad buzz for the brand. But it turns out that Jaguar is already in a catastrophic situation because of the presentation of its new visual identity. The brand’s electric revival was particularly poorly received.
