Brussels Airlines will hire students on its planes. The CNE protests against the measure but the Belgian company justifies its decision

In terms of destinations – 91 proposed, including 71 for Europe alone – the Diegem carrier is going all out on the southern countries of the Old Continent. With particular attention to Spain and Portugal. New on the program: the Belgian company will now connect Funchal, the capital of the island of Madeira, which belongs to Portugal. An island renowned for the beauty of its nature which attracts more and more Belgian tourists. Brussels Airlines will also add additional frequencies to Faro and Porto. The air carrier, which began serving Fuerteventura (Canary Islands) in winter 2024-2025, will continue this route during the summer. This will bring the number of destinations in Spain to 15 during the summer season. The company will also increase its capacity to Malaga, Barcelona, Valencia and Madrid. Further east, Greece will be served with 9 destinations, and capacities to Samos and Lesbos will be increased.

Ryanair and other low-cost airlines face a hefty fine of 179 million euros: A “historic” decision

Other destinations will benefit from additional frequencies, including Vilnius (Lithuania) and Tangier (Morocco). Birmingham (United Kingdom), a destination resumed in winter, will become a destination served all year round.

According to Jan Derycke, Brussels Airlines network manager, this offer “will allow “more flexibility” for passengers to plan their summer vacations. “Last summer, we were in the top 5 of the most reliable airlines in Europe”recalls Mr. Derycke.

Note that Brussels Airlines will also begin to operate most daily flights between Brussels and Munich as well as Frankfurt (Germany), lines previously operated by Lufthansa, the owner of the Belgian company. The latter will now also operate flights between Brussels and Zurich as well as as Geneva (Switzerland) which were until now operated by Swiss, another member of the Lufthansa group.

Growth is also there on the long-haul network, since Brussels Airlines will add an 11th Airbus A330-300 aircraft in the coming months. A record number in the company’s history. The summer program on these intercontinental flights is not yet known, although we already know that the offer will be concentrated on Africa and the United States.
