MP Rachid Hamouni, president of the parliamentary group of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) in the House of Representatives, raised the issue of olive oil fraud, which according to him constitutes a threat to health consumers and brings the quality of the product into disrepute. Hamouni asked the Minister of Agriculture what measures have been taken or he intends to take to combat this phenomenon.

For his part, MP Ahmed Zahou, from the National Rally of Independents (RNI) group, affirmed that the persistent drought which has plagued the kingdom for six years has led to a sharp reduction in production and an increase in food prices. olive oil. To deal with this critical situation, the parliamentarian asked the government to authorize the importation of olive oil from Mediterranean countries where prices are stable, in order to guarantee the availability of this product on the local market .

Khalid Chennak, from the Istiqlal group, expressed his fears about the rise in olive oil prices, stressing that the price of a kilogram of olives has reached 20 dirhams and that a liter of olive oil could reach 150 dirhams. The MP asked the Minister of Agriculture how the government plans to regulate the market and fight against speculation. As for Mohamed Baddou, from the RNI group, he insisted on the need to provide financial and technical support to farmers affected by this crisis and to carry out in-depth studies to assess the extent of the losses.

For his part, Jamal Diwany, from the Istiqlal group, called for strengthening controls to ensure the quality of the olive oil produced and protect consumers against adulterated oils. Abderrazzak Aahlouch, from the same parliamentary group, welcomed the government’s decision to grant tax advantages for the import of olive oil as part of the finance bill for 2025, inviting the Executive to take measures to guarantee the quality of imported oils to preserve the health of consumers.
