In Luxembourg: The City’s parking meters, a new find for crooks

The thieves’ imagination seems to have no limits. After the phishing attempts via emails, here is the scam directly linked to the parking meters of the City of Luxembourg. The capital’s authorities are warning motorists who park in the city.

“Fraudulent stickers have been spotted on certain parking meters in the capital,” writes the City of Luxembourg in a press release sent Thursday afternoon. These stickers bear the words “EasyPark” and “offer users to pay their parking tax by scanning a QR-code”. Victims are then sent to a fraudulent website, where they are asked to share their personal data.

In addition to having their data stolen and robbed, motorists who fall for this trick are likely to find themselves with a fine to pay as their parking bill has not really been paid. The City reminds that “only the “Indigo Neo” application, requiring a mobile download and the creation of a user account, allows parking taxes to be paid on the roads in Luxembourg City”. A sticker explaining the system is affixed to the side of the parking meters.

The City specifies that a complaint has been filed with the police and that its services are working to remove the illegal stickers as quickly as possible.
