the essential
Around 150 passengers have been waiting for over 18 hours this Friday, June 28, for a plane that will take them back from Italy to Toulouse, with the Volotea company.

Air travel with low-cost airlines is not always a good deal. Around 150 passengers were stuck at Pisa airport in Italy this Friday, June 28. They had to take a flight scheduled the day before, Thursday June 27 at 10:15 p.m. in Florence. Which was to take them directly to Toulouse Blagnac airport.

But at 7pm they received an email informing them that a bus would take them from Florence airport at 7.30pm to Pisa airport, about 70km away.

“Finally, the bus arrived at 10 p.m., and that was only the beginning of our worries,” says Geneviève, a woman from Toulouse who contacted La Dépêche, outraged.

From Florence to Pisa, then nothing…

“Indeed, we were transported by two buses, which dropped us off at Pisa airport at 11pm on Thursday evening. There was no Volotea counter there. The plane was supposed to take off at 00:55. That’s what we were told. But without any further information. There were families with children, and no snacks or bottles of water were provided to us.”

“We were totally abandoned in the middle of an airport hall”

And above all, at 12:55 a.m., no plane. And no information. “We were completely abandoned in the middle of an airport hall. Some took the risk of going to the hotel and possibly missing the plane’s takeoff in the night. Some, including me, stayed at the airport. Who gave us camp beds, but there weren’t enough for everyone.”

“The only information we have about the flight times comes to us by SMS, and it changes every two hours: 1:30 p.m., 3:15 p.m….”, Geneviève adds. Meal vouchers of 5 euros per person were distributed to passengers while waiting for a possible flight…

Landing in Toulouse 16 hours 40 minutes late

Finally, the passengers of the Florence-Toulouse on Thursday, June 27 at 10:15 p.m., will have landed on June 28 at 4:30 p.m., with… 16 hours and 40 minutes behind the scheduled time. “This is the first and last time I travel with this company,” concludes Geneviève. “I was warned, I won’t be caught out again.”
