The leader of the Insoumis Jean-Luc Mélenchon announced the withdrawal of “all candidates” from the New Popular Front in cases of three-way races favorable to the RN.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon wanted to be very clear in the case of triangular: “We will withdraw our candidacy” in the event of qualification for the second round of a candidate from the New Popular Front (NFP) who came third in the early legislative elections.

“Nowhere will we allow the RN to win”he hammered home from the HQ of La France Insoumise in the wake of the results of the first round, which saw the National Rally (RN) come out on top. Jean-Luc Mélenchon, whose alliance came in second with, according to initial estimates, 29.1% of the vote, was also delighted with “a heavy and indisputable defeat» for the President of the Republic.

Mathilde Panot explains

On the set of TF1, the outgoing president of the rebellious group in the National Assembly, Mathilde Panot, made it clear that the withdrawal of left-wing candidates would be effective “if the RN is in the lead”.

With participation increasing significantly, estimated at 67% by Ifop, cases of triangulars risk multiplying in many constituencies.
