Opel offers its 136 hp hybrid engine in the Mokka. The crossover is available to order from €30,700. Almost to the euro the price of a 2008 equipped with the same engine.

The Opel Mokka was the first model to receive the 1.2 PureTech 136 hp engine combined with the manual gearbox within the Stellantis group. But the automotive giant had ideas in mind with a 48 V mild hybrid version that continues to be deployed among the various brands in the Stellantis galaxy. The latest arrival is the Opel Mokka, which now offers a dual offering: 1.2 PureTech 136 hp with manual gearbox without hybridization, and 1.2 PureTech Hybrid 136 hp with automatic gearbox. Obviously, the presence of an electric motor and a battery complicates the mechanics and increases the bill. There is still a €3,000 difference between the two with an equivalent finish. Making this difference profitable will not be quick for those who would like to opt for the hybrid, but resale will perhaps be made easier and approval in urban areas will be greater with the electric motor and the automatic transmission.

You will therefore have to pay at least €30,700 to afford the services of the Opel Mokka Hybrid 136, which is very close to the Peugeot 2008 equipped with the same engine. The French model is in fact barely €200 more expensive! The logic of moving Peugeot into the “premium access” category seems less respected here as the two crossovers are so close. Opel, for its part, announces a 20% reduction in consumption compared to the classic PureTech, and up to 50% of city driving time in electric mode. In the approval figures, we actually find these differences with a Mokka PureTech at 110 g/km of CO2 when the PureTech mechanical gearbox version is at 137 g/km (€740 penalty).

The Mokka Hybrid is not the most competitive of hybrid crossovers, just like the Peugeot 2008. A Toyota Yaris Cross – which still benefits from an automatic €2,500 discount – or a Renault Captur start at lower prices, but you will still have to compare the list of equipment to find your way around. And above all, these two models are true hybrids capable of driving longer in electric mode.
