Hadjer Al-Ali, 33, is an honest man. This homeless man, who lives in the Netherlands, has just been rewarded by the authorities for a gesture that others would certainly not have accomplished.

After finding a wallet containing 1,970 euros in an empty train, parked at Amsterdam station, which he was inspecting to collect plastic bottles to resell to survive, the homeless man went to the police to hand over the money . “The wallet was open, I saw a lot of money in it”he explained to Dutch media.

The unidentified owner

The police confirm that the wallet contained “around 2,000 euros but unfortunately no identity papers or anything to contact its owner”.

“No matter what I find, I always return it”, confided the SDF. For his good citizenship and probity, Hadjer Al-Ali received a “silver thumb”, a small trophy that the Dutch authorities give to citizens who distinguish themselves, and a gift certificate worth 50 euros.

The sum will return to him if no one comes forward

“I think a lot of people who have a roof over their head would have acted differently”a police official told the newspaper Stentorian who photographed Hadjer Al-Ali with his award.

If no one comes to claim the wallet and the money it contains within a year, the 1,970 euros will go to the homeless person, who says “very spiritual but not religious” and hopes that the owner of the sum “maybe there will be a job for me or somewhere I can live, you never know”.
