The Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC) settles in Sainte-Marie. A new branch will open its doors on Vachon Boulevard on Monday, November 25.
On Monday, a poster appeared in front of the future premises of this branch which will be next to Casse-Croûte Mary Rockets.
By email, the SQDC claims to have chosen to establish itself in Sainte-Marie based on the evaluation of its “market holes in Quebec”.
Before the opening of this future point of sale, a consultation of the list of branches on the company’s website reveals that Beaucerons had to fall back on establishments in Lévis or that of Saint-Georges to purchase legal cannabis in the region.
The location of the new branch was determined based on different criteria, namely the zoning rules specific to each municipality, the authorization of the municipality, the available premises and the distance from educational establishments.
To this end, the law requires the SQDC to keep a distance of at least 250 meters from any educational establishment in Quebec, a criterion which is respected in this case, since the Benoit-Vachon high school and the future Maribel school 2.0, both located on Route Saint-Martin, are more than 600 meters from the chosen premises.
Despite the presence of a high school close to the Sainte-Marie branch, and this is the case everywhere in Quebec, our products are only intended for people aged 21 and over and our staff is perfectly trained to check the age of customers who enter our branches. The presence of people under 21 is strictly prohibited, even for a baby in a stroller. The SQDC’s mission is to counter the illegal market while promoting responsible consumption with controlled, lower-risk products, without promoting them.
