3 new Teslas promised by Elon Musk: what to expect

During a telephone interview with investors, Elon Musk provided an update on Tesla’s complicated financial situation. He took the opportunity to point out that the brand was working on several new car projects. A half-hearted announcement or a new false promise for the CEO of the Texan manufacturer?

Tesla’s 2024 won’t end up in the company’s annals, or at least not for the right reasons. In great financial difficulty, Elon Musk was forced to organize a vast layoff plan in recent months to get the Tesla boat afloat. But the manufacturer’s efforts are far from sufficient. As sales fall, the brand must find the “miracle vehicle” that will reverse the curve.

Tesla Roadster: the rebirth of the myth

To get back on track, Elon Musk expects a lot from version 2.0 of the Roadster. This legendary Tesla model, marketed between 2008 and 2012, made the company successful. In its version 2.0, presented by Musk in 2017, the businessman promises a range of more than 1000 km for a maximum speed exceeding 400 km/h.

If the car leaves no one indifferent, for the moment it only exists on paper. No model has yet been produced and apart from Elon Musk’s promises of success, the general public has nothing to eat. 7 years after the announcement of its release, the wait is starting to be very long.

Model 2: the pragmatic solution

The other option proposed by Elon Musk to his investors to get back on the path to economic growth is the arrival of the Model 2. This improved version of the Model 3 would be the perfect response to market expectations. The general public is ready to turn to electric cars in large numbers, but on two conditions. The first is to have more than adequate autonomy. The second is not to spend hundreds of thousands of euros.

With the Model 2, Tesla wants to bring all its know-how into a compact, classic, but functional car. It would be sold for less than 25,000 euros, thus becoming one of the cheapest electric cars on the market as soon as it goes on sale.

But here again, as for the Roadster 2.0, the announcements are numerous, the actions much less. While the project was on track according to several internal sources, Tesla put a stop to it to focus on something else: robotaxis.

Robotaxis: exoticism and risk

This is Elon Musk’s latest whim. Thanks to the American manufacturer’s latest progress in autonomous driving, Tesla would be able to market a driverless car, capable of driving from point A to point B on request, as taxis do today.

Although this dream is magnificent, it seems very unrealistic. However, Elon Musk would be about to unveil this technology to the general public during a conference in the heart of summer, on August 8. The multi-billionaire should give more details on this project, starting with the name and operation of these robotaxis. For the moment, this project is far from unanimous, the economic benefits of such a car being much more difficult to predict than for a Model 2 whose core target is already known.
