The vomit bag located in the seatback pocket of an airplane can be very handy in an emergency. However, according to “Travelbook”, some airlines have decided to remove them.
Ryanair has not expressly removed it. In fact, the Irish low-cost airline removed the pouch that contained it from the back of the seat. According to “Travelbook”, this is probably a measure to save time during cleaning and money.
According to “Aerotelegraph”, Eurowings has decided to reduce its stock to limit waste. The bags nevertheless remain available if needed. Easyjet still supplies bags, but has been using recycled paper since 2022.
For the moment, Swiss companies are not imitating their competitors. “We always have bags on board and have no intention of changing that,” explains Swiss, who considers this type of bag very useful in certain delicate situations, knowing that it can also be used as a trash if needed. “Given that they take up very little space and given their low weight, they constitute an extremely practical accessory for our passengers,” continues the Lufthansa subsidiary. Edelweiss, Helvetic Airways and Chair Airlines confirm that it will remain available at the back of the seats and that no changes are planned.
It also happens that the object is diverted from its primary function. Some passengers keep it as a souvenir. There are even unusual examples for sale on Ebay. The bag with a humorous print is particularly popular. “Our passengers are free to take their own vomit bag with them. We regularly replenish the stock,” assures Helvetic Airways.
