The appearance of a new shelter for the homeless, near Jarry Park, has raised the discontent of citizens and business owners who, on Thursday, discovered at least one dirty syringe as well as injection equipment on the ground.

Citizens of Saint-Laurent Boulevard, near Castelnau Street, sent TVA new photos of the syringe abandoned by consumers and consumption equipment.
The unfortunate discovery was made Thursday morning by employees of a business, neighboring the Abri de Villeray, managed by the organization Refuge du Cœur de l’Île.

Citizens who do not wish to be identified are worried and shocked, because this is a first deplorable event which occurs only a few hours after the opening of the resource which will gradually welcome people experiencing homelessness in new premises located at 7399, boulevard Saint-Laurent.
This shelter will open its doors to around twenty of the most vulnerable people in the area to allow them to sleep and take a shower and to offer them a break from the street, in a safe environment, we can read on the web page of the City of Montreal.
The Borough is aware that the presence of this shelter may raise questions and concerns among people living or working nearby.
City center taken by storm
In addition to potentially endangering the health and safety of citizens, consumers are going so far as to storm buildings in the city center, TVA Nouvelles has learned.

Once inside, in the entrance hall or near the stairs, they sit down to eat.
We are told that they will also harass tenants and steal mail, sometimes adopting aggressive behavior.

The owners of the buildings concerned are demanding strong intervention from the authorities.
