here is the Hyundai Inster with its “great” autonomy

Hyundai is currently working on the development of a small electric car to rival the Dacia Spring. Inspired by the small Casper already marketed in Korea, this newcomer will bear the name Inster and is already partially shown in images. We know its autonomy, rather high for the segment.

Launched in 2021, the Dacia Spring quickly experienced great success in Europe and particularly in France, where it was even one of the best-selling cars in 2023. So obviously, this gives the competition some ideas.

A new electric city car

We obviously think of Renault with its R5 E-Tech or the new Citroën ë-C3 that we were able to test a few weeks earlier. But that’s not all, because another manufacturer also wants to try its luck on the market for low-cost electric city cars. This is Hyundai, which had suggested that it was working on a rival inspired by its small Casper already marketed in Korea. If it is thermal, an electric version would be in the pipeline.

A few months later, we are finally starting to know a little more about it, since the Seoul-based manufacturer has just release some official images. Of course, there is no question of showing the car in its entirety, since it is only a teaser for the moment. But above all it is the opportunity to discover the name of this newcomer, which will therefore be called Inster. A name which is in fact a contraction of “intimate” and “innovation”.

Moreover, the brand’s press release specifies that this new car will be named Casper Electric in its native country. For now, we still know little about this Inster, which nevertheless reveals its very compact silhouette. The latter actually takes the form of a small SUV, the dimensions of which have not yet been made official. They should remain close to those of the standard Casper, which measures 3.60 meters long for 1.60 meters wide and 1.58 meters high. A size close to that of the Dacia Spring.

At the front, the car will sport small LED lights in the shape of circles, which should undoubtedly serve as daytime lighting. Just below, we also note other optics, more elongated this time. A wide black band seems to cross the entire front, while the grille should logically be solid, electric motor requires. We also notice the presence of roof bars, giving an adventurer style to the elevated city car. Finally, the rear part will feature the model name as well as pixel LED lights, like on the Ioniq 6.

Less than 20,000 euros?

For the moment, Hyundai has not shown the slightest image of the driving position of its new Inster, but we should know more very quickly. Indeed, the latter will officially be revealed on June 27, at the Busan show in South Korea. We should undoubtedly discover a modernized presentation compared to that of the Casper, undoubtedly focusing on simplicity. Because you have to remember that this new car should have a very low price.

The first rumors in the corridors speak of an entry ticket under 20,000 euros, in order to compete in particular with the future Renault Twingo as well as the Volkswagen ID.1 still under development.

As for the engine, the Korean firm is simply content to confirm that the leggy city car will be able to travel up to 355 kilometers in a single charge according to the WLTP approval cycle. Which is much greater than the 230 kilometers of the Dacia Spring.

Enough to allow you to cross France for the holidays, provided that the car is equipped with fast charging. This is almost the autonomy of the Peugeot e-208 with the old battery.

We therefore do not yet know the size of the battery or the technology chosen, but it is likely that Hyundai has chosen LFP (lithium – iron – phosphate), which has a lower production cost. Not a word either on the power of the car, nor on its driving aids. However, this could having to do without the ecological bonus if it one day arrived in France, due to its very probable production in Korea. Thus, the Niro EV, for example, is not entitled to this state aid, even though it is currently benefiting from a very big discount.
