• The election of Donald Trump risks upsetting American energy policy.

• The Republican wants in particular to relaunch oil and gas prospecting and repeal the climate measures taken under the mandate of Joe Biden.

• During his first term, he repealed more than 100 environmental standards.

A return to Trump’s business was feared by climate advocates. A notorious climate sceptic, a fervent supporter of the exploitation of fossil fuels, the man who will be the 47th President of the United States was a scarecrow in the face of a Kamala Harris favorable to renewable energies. His election now confirmed, what will be the consequences on the climate, while COP29 is due to open on November 11 in Baku, Azerbaijan?

Even if the theme of climate was largely absent from the American campaign, Donald Trump’s speeches leave little doubt about his intentions on the matter. On several occasions, he has called into question the seriousness, even the existence, of global warming, described as “the biggest scam in history”.
